Good toy, lasts all of a day..., 23 Oct 2008
I bought a Rubik's cube from a seller on Amazon. I was disappointed to see it wasn't an original Rubik's Cube, but a cheap rip-off.
Despite this, the cube seemed to move nicely, there weren't stickers but coloured pieces of plastic, so the trouble of the stickers peeling off was non-existent.
However, after about a week of solving it again, again and again, one of the centre pieces fell out. It just... fell out.
So I proceeded to pop it back in again, which it did with a satisfying 'click'.
Later that day I realised the piece was started to become loose. It fell out again. On my second time of replacing it, it shattered.
Now I have a cube with a piece missing.
Great.
The Rubik's cube are not as good as the 80's models, 31 Aug 2008
I first got a Rubik's cube when they came out in the early 80's and absolutely loved it. I used the first one so much that I had to buy a replacement within a couple of years. The action for these cubes was fantastic. 'Clicky' 'tight' but so easy and smooth to turn. Even though I could eventually solve the puzzle in a couple of minutes, I've never tired of it.
I was really pleased when they started to produce the cube again and was keen to buy a new one. I bought a new cube and was dismayed to find that the action and build quality was terrible. I actually dug out my remaining original cube to try and see what the difference could be and saw that the original design had little areas where the inner surfaces had open pockets or gaps. I think this was what helped to reduce the drag when turning the faces.
I ended up exchanging several e-mails with the main 'Rubik's Cube' website and after trying to say that their product was as good as the original, they eventually admitted that their new cube was different. They said that they had stopped leaving these little gaps/pockets due to the risk of small children sticking their fingers in and thereafter being hurt. I personally think that this is utter nonsense.
Anyway, I ended up checking out cubes on ebay and managed to get an original 80's cube in mint condition for under ten pounds. When it arrived, it really was like being introduced to an old friend. 'Tight' 'Clicky' but smooth as silk. A total contrast to the terrible ones that are being sold as the official cube.
I've actually just ordered another 'Rubik's Cube' from another site which says that they get their cubes from a factory in Hungary which is still under the control of the inventor Mr. Erno Rubik. I am very hopeful that it will be as good as his original cube was.

good fun but the rubik's cube was slimy, 22 Aug 2008
i found the rubik's cube a little slimy i had to wash my hands after i play with it plus the cubes are hard to move you got to line them im or it won't move and its only goes one way it can go the other way but its much stiffer the packages was a bit crp coz it came in a little plastic bag im not sure mabe it was just my one.
Great puzzle - low on durability, 23 Jul 2008
I bought this recently to take on holiday........it gave me a challenge for a week and something to do on the beach whilst soaking up the sun. I owned one in the 80's but was never able to do it, so thought now I'm a bit older I'll give it another go......and am now pleased to say after a weeks practice, driving my girlfriend mad and memorising certain moves and following the solve guide that comes with it........I can now complete it in under 2 minutes. It is a great challenge, incredibly addictive and a cool party trick.....dumbfounding people with a seemingly impossible task to solve.
There is a mention on here from one reviewer that the last step in the solution booklet doesnt work. I thought this at first, but it does work....its just not explained very well. So tip: Once you have all the all the last layer corners in the right place but not flipped, pick a face to be your front face....I always choose red. Hold the front face facing you and now JUST TURN THE TOP LAYER and get the piece that needs to be flipped in the top right hand corner. Execute the move R(anticlockwise) D (anticlockwise) R (clockwise) D (clockwise). Make sure when you turn your D face you turn it the correct way.....imagine you are looking directly at D face you are turning. (It is easy to turn it clockwise, not anticlockwise if you are not looking at it directly.) After executing this move 2 or 4 times the corner that needed to be flipped will be completed. What it DOESNT explain in the booklet is that once you have flipped one corner IT WONT GO BACK TO THE ORIGINAL STATE YOU STARTED WITH........it still looks all messed up.......don't worry about it. keep going. Still holding your chosen front face facing you, turn the top layer again so the next corner piece that needs to be flipped is in the top right hand corner. Execute the move again. Keep turning the top layer, so the piece that needs to be flipped is in the top right hand corner, and execute the alogorithm. On the last corner piece.......as if by magic...all the colours line up and just twist the individual layers and you've done it! Hope this helps......
The downside of this cube is, and much the same as the other reviews....after much twisting and turning the stickers start to peel away from the edges. A great gadget that is hard to put down, its just a shame they dont make it more durable.
Just as I remember, 30 Jun 2008
I had one of the original cubes as a child and loved it. It is probably up in the loft somewhere but I wanted a new one anyway. This is exactly the same high quality I remember. It was lovely and fluid straight out of the box. I love it just as much now as I did then, now Im a bit smarter so can complete it too LOL. I have no hesitation in recommending this cube, it really is the best one you can buy.

Great new unique puzzle!, 16 Aug 2006
As a puzzle fan i was intreagued how this puzzle would go. All the puzzle pieces are numbered which does help if you get stuck but aren't exactly in order. Only hard part is putting the last few pieces in as even tho the instructions say the top pieces in last with a gentle tap they are still hard to get in. But when its finished and on the stand it does look pretty damn cool!

At last - The final part of the puzzle, 18 Jul 2008
This is a brilliant idea. Sitting down making your puzzle, all of a sudden, dinner's ready, need to clear the table and put your jigsaw away from the kids reach. Zip it up, tip it up on its side and down the back of the couch with it - all in under a minute. A fantastic product and only sorry it wasn't available growing up when it would have been my Mother looking for her table back and not my wife!!! Only limitation is its size, you get addicted to jigsaws and want to go bigger, now you need a bigger puzzle board!! Well done to the person who invented this - I hope you make a fortune!
Portapuzzle Deluxe - Not as good as expected, 15 Mar 2008
I left plenty of hints every birthday and Christmas and finally received a Portapuzzle.
I am so disappointed with it I wished I had never asked for it!
It is not possible for 2 people to share the enjoyment of a jigsaw unless the Portapuzzle is completely folded back on itself. This not only risks the danger of breaking the zip, but could also scratch any surface it is placed upon.
My husband and I are addicted to "Wasgijs", and as anybody who does these knows, portions of the puzzle need to be made up without actually knowing where they fit. The problem is, there is no 'slidability' on the padded felt surfaces of either the main board or the sorting boards, so everything breaks up when you try and put it in position.
Having tried this rather expensive item, I think I will revert back to my old method - a recycled kitchen cupboard door and the cork side of table mats for sorting the pieces!
Great idea, a few drawbacks..., 12 Dec 2007
I love doing puzzles but hadn't done any for a while since I have two kittens and a young child, which have resulted in a few half-done puzzle as ending up on the floor. This product has made life a lot easier. The trays are great for laying out all the pieces and being able to zip it up when I leave the room has saved many mishaps.
The main drawback is its size. I had 3 1000-piece puzzles in my cupboard waiting to be done, but only one of them fits on this Portapuzzle. That puzzle is 49 x 69cm and only just fits widthwise. That said, I don't think I could sit comfortably with the Portapuzzle on my lap if it were any larger and so do not wish to purchase a larger one (if it exists).
One time I had it zipped on its side for a while and when I opened it some of the pieces along the bottom edge slipped out. I think this is because the puzzle was right near the edge and it had taken a few knocks.
From now on I will be careful to only buy puzzles to fit this Portapuzzle and will only store it horizontally when there is a puzzle inside. It is a shame it has these limitations, but taking them into consideration I still think I will be using this Portapuzzle happily for many years to come.
What a product!, 06 Sep 2006
Excellent product, a must for all puzzlers out there! Makes storing an incomplete puzzle so easy - don't know how I ever survived without one.

Jigsaw Roll 2000 pc Puzzle Holder Mat, 15 Sep 2007
Just simply a great practical item. Does what it says on the box!
Make up your puzzle on the felt mat, then when you want a break, simply pull open the telescopic tube, roll the puzzle and mat around it, and secure with the elastic bands provided.
Very poor design, 31 Mar 2008
There is very little to recommend this product. When it is opened out it is huge and unwieldy. To close it up all the pieces from the side flaps have to be removed and then all put out again next time. In desperation I cut the side flaps off so I can place the three parts separately on the table then when I want to store it I place the sections with the loose pieces on top of the jigsaw. If I want to store it vertically I place felt on the pieces, then cardboard, secured by elastic!! What a performance. The Jigsort is miles better.
Jumbo Portapuzzle, 13 Mar 2008
I found this puzzle board to be both poorly designed and low quality.
The board was surfaced with material that was loosly fitted and already creased, totaly unsuitable for holding puzzle pieces in place.
The velcro fixings for holding the board closed when not in use, were far too extensive and meant that the puzzle would invariably end up on the floor before you could open it up.
My old board that is now ten years old is far better with a proper non slip flat bed ideal for holding the puzzle in place. I shall have to stick with the old board for a few more years.
Not a Smoothie, 08 Feb 2008
We'd thought about one of these for a while and were really looking forward to using it when we eventually placed an order. However, we were very disappointed when it arrived. The overall construction appeared nice and strong but what let it down was the poor working surface - and that's the whole purpose of it. The material is not glued into place but is simply sewn around the edges. On ours it was badly creased and so loosely fitted the jigsaw pieces kept coming apart. We quickly gave up and put the jigsaw back into the box. The Portapuzzle simply went back. We are now the delighted owners of a Jigsort 1500.
Less ear ache for puzzlers!, 29 Dec 2007
This is brilliant, if like me your wife is always on your back to clear away your half done jigsaw so you can have your tea on the table ( I for one am more than happy to have it on my knee in front of the telly), then this is for you.
You simply open out the Portapuzzle and build your jigsaw on top, then when you need to move it fold in the flaps and it holds it securly in place and can then fit neatly under the sofa or against a wall out of the way. No more trying to put as larger chunks as possible back in the box.

The fun continues., 30 Apr 2008
I started cubing at christmas when i was presented with my first 3x3x3 cube. I was determined to master the thing. Eventually i was able to do it and i'm working hard to get a quick time.
I decided to go for a little harder challenge and so the 4x4x4 was the obvious next step. It was a challenge but knowledge from the 3x3x3 one makes it easier to pick up strategies and techniques. Once you master this the 3x3x3 seems so much more simple. This is deffinutly a good buy for people wanting more then a 3x3x3. But if your just starting out go for the 3x3x3 as you deffinutly need it to understand this one.
5x5x5 here i come!!!
Great Fun, 28 Mar 2008
I recently bought a 3x3x3 classic rubiks cube of which i found extremely
entertaining yet when i began to master it, thought of it slightly easy.
I decided to put my money where my mouth is and go for the 4x4x4 cube.
It is a lot harder as there is no center square yet there is such fun
to be gained trying to piece it together.
If you have mastered the 3x3x3 cube get this!!!
If you cannot do the 3x3x3 cube, don't!! unless of course you are willing
to undertake the challenge!!
There is an excellent guide on youtube on how to solve both the 3x3x3
and the 4x4x4 cube so don't be put off if you are a determined person!!
Go for it!!
Excellent extension to the standard cube, 26 May 2007
This is (maybe obviously) rather much more tricky than the standard 3x3x3 cube.
The real aspect that makes this one a challenge (for me) is that each side has an even number of squares, and so the is no square in the very centre of any side.
So you have to put the four squares in the centre of each side there yourself. Not only that, but you must also place the red centre correctly in relation to the yellow and the white centres etc. This is quite tricky.
Then there are further complications with parity (odd/evenness of permutations for those who understand) with the middle-edge pieces. There is still an element of guess work in that stage of the solution for me to this day (perhaps something I need to master).
There is indeed a 5x5x5 professor cube also. The professor cube is not in every respect more difficult than the revenge, since the professor cube has an odd number of squares on each side, and so eradicates some of the difficulties of the revenge. I believe now that 6x6x6 and 7x7x7 cubes have also recently become available.
One last thing about the revenge - it is structurally more complicated than the standard cube, and so is probably less durable for that reason.
A great puzzle, but strictly for Rubik's Cube masters!, 07 Jan 2007
Be warned, this is an EXTREMELY difficult puzzle. If you thought the standard Rubik's Cube was too hard, or if you've never tried these cube puzzles before, stay well away!
However, for those who have already mastered the original Cube, this one adds extra challenge. Just to give an idea, my Dad was a bit of a speedcuber back in the day, he could solve the original Rubik's Cube in no time at all, yet he gave up on this one very quickly!
Once you've cracked the Revenge, you can apparently move on to the Rubik's Professor Cube which is 5x5x5! Mind-boggling stuff.
I love my toy!, 14 Sep 2005
I had been doing the original 3x3 Rubik's cube since it first came out in 1981, so when I saw a 4x4 version, I had to buy it. It is so much more fun, given that the middle pieces aren't in place, and there is great scope for creating patterns. If you liked the original cube, you'll love this!

A joy to do, 16 Jan 2008
I got this puzzle for christmas and I really enjoyed it. There's plenty of detail to challenge you and when it is finished it's so beautiful you don't want to take it apart! A lovely puzzle.
