Product Description
Charlie is seven years old. He loves playing football, making race cars and rockets. He also likes his little sister, Lola. He says, "She is small but very funny!" Lola is nearly five and likes pink milk, chimpanzees and her best friend Lotta. She says, "I'm not small, I'm big!". Lola doesn't like mushrooms, numbers bigger than 10 or itchy jumpers, and she will never ever eat a tomato! Together, Charlie and Lola can go anywhere and be anything they want to be! Cuddle up to Charlie and Lola, the adorable poseable dolls for little ones! Press their tummies and hear fun phrases!

OKAY ...BUT EXPECTED BETTER FROM A WELL KNOWN BRAND, 29 Jun 2008
THESE TOYS ARE FROM GOLDEN BEAR - THEY'RE GOOD, IF YOU HAVE A CHARLIE AND LOLA FAN, WHICH I DO! THEY ONLY SAY ONE PHRASE EACH - CHARLIE SAYS "I HAVE THIS LITTLE SISTER LOLA SHE IS SMALL AND VERY FUNNY", LOLA SAYS "IM NOT SMALL IM BIG"....AND THTAS IT ...I WOULD HAVE PREFERRED THEM TO SAY MORE PHRASES FOR THE PRICE. THE BATTERIES ARE IRREPLACEABLE (LAST 6 MONTHS) AND THEIR CLOTHES ARE FIXED, THE SOUND DEVICE IS ALSO TOO HARD TO PRESS FOR A 3 YEAR OLD. OKAY BUT COULD HAVE DONE BETTER
These toys are a hit!, 18 Nov 2007
I bought these dolls/toys for my son who is now 20 mths and absolutely loves watching Charlie and Lola. (He has loved them since he figured out the TV had moving pictures). These dolls are durable, as they have withstood a 20 mth old pulling and dragging them everywhere. My one complaint is that they only say one phrase each: Charlie says "I have this little sister Lola, she is small and very funny" and Lola says "I'm not small I am big". It would be nice if some more phrases where added, but since I am not a toddler, it doesn't really matter. I didn't buy them for eduacational reasons, i bought them because i knew he would love to just play with them. Thankfully my instinct was right, my son loves them, they go everywhere with us and when its time for his tv hour, he gets his Charlie and Lola dolls and they watch too.
If your child is a fan, then these would make a great gift for Christmas or a Birthday, as they are priced right and are well made.

I love dressing it up in my old baby clothes and carrying it around.
It has helped me learn how to care for babys.

Disappointing Doll - sounds robotic , 25 Feb 2008
My daughter has loads of dolls and when this new version came out she just had to have it. what a disappointment. She expected the head to move when she talked to it - she spent ages shouting at it so the head would move towards her. Like other reviews, I agree this eats up batteries. The sucking sounds robotic. It was so bad I took it back to Toys R Us three times to then realise they must all be the same. My daughter loves this doll but I would not recommend. Expensive to maintain and I think is very disappointing overall. The version 3 Annabelle is much better - softer features and sounds better. It does not move its head but you do get a better doll. The version 3 would also be a lot cheaper now.
A bit of a disapointment, 22 Jan 2008
I bought this for my daughter for Christmas. She fell in love with her at first sight on Christmas morning. My problem is the battery use. You can't use anything except top quality (i.e. top price) batteries. If you use standard batteries or rechargeables there is not enough top end power when she cries. If this happens she just turns herself off and won't do anything until you unscrew the battery compartment and remove and replace a battery (not terribly convenient). Then she works fine again until she is next fed and cries. It took us some time and an e-mail or two to Zapf to work this out (they recommended only Duracell M3 or Energiser ultimate batteries) as there is no mention of this in the instructions and we even went as far as getting a replacement Annabell only to find the same thing happened.
In itself this might not be an issue, but played with regularly I am having to change the batteries every 10 days or so as they get to about 50% used and the same thing happens again. So it's expensive and a hassle. Basically it must just be a bad design that the crying requires so much power the batteries can't support it. I am stuck with it as my daughter loves her so much (although she has mentioned that it would be nice if Annabell wasn't so heavy), but if I wasn't it would be going back.
So in summary my daughter loves her, but as a parent I certainly wouldn't recommend this version to anyone else.
Great doll....., 30 Dec 2007
Santa delivered the version 4 baby annabell to my house last week, and has since provided much entertainment for my 4 year old. She loves the fact that annabell turns her head and has spent many an hour trying to stop her from crying. Excellent doll with lovely feature of turning the head.
Great fun but slightly heavy for younger children possibly??, 30 Dec 2007
My daughter had this as a replacement for a similar style doll (store own) which we kept having faults with. My first thought was that she is very heavy due to the motor, etc but my 4 year old doesn't seem to have any trouble with this. The head-turning action is quite freaky but you soon get used it (although I think my daughter's voice is slightly high and she doesn't always respond to her). She has a flesh coloured body (unlike the common white middle section) which we liked as it is more realistic.
It does take a while to get the tear function to work but this is purely because she needs chance to drink kenough water on first use. Subsequent uses have been very good thought, however I would suggest a face cloth for drying her as you would spend a fortune on tissues!! You also need to watch out for any drips later on as my daughter has been caught out several times where a tiny amount have water has spilt out onto her (we're not talking major amounts here though)
I'm not sure if she gurgles as much as previous dolls as I've not really seen much of them but my daughter seems quite happy with the noises that she makes.
All in all I would say she has been in hit with my daughter and both my partner ans I have found her quite amusing. Definitely a well-loved toy!

Necessary for us Baby Born mummies!!, 08 Nov 2007
I think it is very wasteful to throw away a doll diaper that only has water and cornstarch in it, but these are great anyway. But I think you should sew cloth nappies for your Baby Born! If you don't sew, you can buy them. These are great nonetheless and are a great price. Only 3 pounds for 5 nappies!! A bargain for sure. And they fit Baby Born to a tee, so there's no more loose diapers that leak :)!

Disappointed with Barbie Mariposa Doll, 02 Aug 2008
This doll is very pretty and appealing to little girls, the idea of the winged Barbie is excellent but I feel not enough research went into the durability and play factor of the doll, the wings constantly fall off which frustrates my Daughter (and myself as I have to constantly re-attatch the wings), they don't close easy and still the wings fall off...For the amount of money I paid I expected a higher quality product from such a succesful company like Mattel.
Lovely looking doll, 27 Jul 2008
This is a truly lovely looking doll. But one massive problem. The wings WON'T STAY ON! If you just pick up the doll to look at it. They just drop off. A royal pain in the butt, to have to fix them on every 5 mins.
I've taken the wings off for god now!
The backs of the wings look shabby too.
Not made to the good same standard as the Fairytopia batch of Barbies.
wot a let down not up to usual barbie standards, 03 Jun 2008

the wings are a nightmare to fit & fall off they do not close properly & keep popping open. my 4 year old wanted this as a reward for sleeping well

Brilliantly detailed!, 07 Nov 2007
I love all Sylvanian families things, and this toy is a great addition to my collection. There are so many little pieces, and I was amazed at the adorable detail of it all. Although the packs vary over time, most will include many little delights, such as; Bunk beds, teddies, a storage shelf, postcards, photos and posters, school books, bedding, a pencil pot with a ruler and pencil, school timetable and more. It is an adorable little set, which can be arranged in many ways, and will fit in even the small sylvanian families homes. It is really a toy for careful children, as the pieces can be easily lost/ broken/ swallowed etc. but me and my teenage friends all love playing with it, so who's to say you should grow out of toys?!

If your child is a fan, then these would make a great gift for Christmas or a Birthday, as they are priced right and are well made.
great doll, 06 Apr 2008
I got this doll for my Christmas present and I really like it.
I love dressing it up in my old baby clothes and carrying it around.
It has helped me learn how to care for babys.
I advise it
Disappointing Doll - sounds robotic , 25 Feb 2008
Not made to the good same standard as the Fairytopia batch of Barbies.
wot a let down not up to usual barbie standards, 03 Jun 2008
the toy arrived & as usual took forever to get out of the box!
the wings are a nightmare to fit & fall off they do not close properly & keep popping open. my 4 year old wanted this as a reward for sleeping well
for a month. she really looked forward to having this but is very dissapionted & its just ended up & the bottom of the toy box a waste £14.97!

Fantastic imagination, 15 Mar 2008
My five year old girl has had hours of fun with this. She loves playing with all her different puppies that we have and she tries to learn all their names that they are given. She loves setting out the house and moving all the puppies to the different rooms, and she makes up stories about them all. I dont have a problem with the quality - better than some of the 'plastic toys' that can be bought for girls - I think the playhouse gives endless hours of fun, imaginative play
It's not so bad!, 13 Mar 2008
Didn'thave a problem with the durability of this item, and considering its cost it is a lot of fun.
poor quality, 28 Feb 2008
my 7 year old desperately wanted this for her birthday. it arrived today and she was very excited!!! we got it out of the box and the wire ties are tied on the inside of the play house, so we opened it up and the hinges snapped!!! the whole thing looks like it cost about a fiver to make!!!! she is crying now and im very annoyed at paying for this piece of poor quality merchandise!!!

Great toy, 25 Aug 2008
I wanted a baby doll for my 3 year old daughter that wet itself, drank a bottle, could go in the bath & didn't need batteries so this ticks all those boxes and she loves it.
It's true that the food is very runny & a bit pointless although we have managed to make it poo & it only arrived 2 days ago. True, the arms are hard to squeeze, so just give the doll too much water & it'll cry no problem (as well as wet itself). You are supposed to put the bottle in the mouth to quite a depth & it's awkward to get the doll to sit on the potty, so the other reviews are technically correct - it just depends on how hung up you want to get about these things. I've never really expected a toy to work as well as it appears to in the ads so perhaps my disappointment levels are quite low!
My daughter loves this doll and it seems very durable. So far it's been in the bath & swimming pool and chucked around quite a bit. Very glad not to be changing batteries every 5 min too. Overall a great product if you don't believe the hype.
Get Real with Baby Born, 20 Aug 2008
Fantatsic price for a fantastic product. My 6 year old daughter got it for her birthday, and has not stoppped playing with it for 7 days! She takes it everywhere, even to the swimming pool! The doll does everything it says, and come with loads of interactive extras. The magic eyes are cool. And it drinks, pees, and poops! As for the educational value, it's brilliant. My daughter plays and cares for it as she would a real baby. (Well, real enough for a 6 year old!) Go on, buy for your daughter...she'll love you for it!
what a waste of money, 02 Jul 2008
my daughter got this for her 3 rd birthday...perhaps she is too young, but what a disappointment. the doll only comes with one set of clothes, so when it cries the clothes become soaken wet, our doll has not pooed and the food you have tO mix with water seems really runny. there are a also certain ways you have to remember to sit the doll when feeding or giving a bottle....we much prefer our baby annabel doll. baby born's arms are also too hard to squeeze. i would not buy this again or recommend to anyone else to buy.
Save your money!, 06 Jun 2008
Save your money and buy a none branded doll. Recently bought this for our daugther's birthday. As with other review the functions are really difficult to malipulate and the function "squeals with delight" is simply a squeaker like you might find in a pets toy!! A cheaper doll we bought her from Christmas was much more child friendly and our daughter has ignored the upgrade to Baby Born and reverted to her old faithful none branded doll.
Very disappointing, 24 Mar 2008
My four year daughter really, really wanted one for xmas. But she has found it quite disapointing. Ths so called 'functions' do not work. We have not has much success at all- feeding, the food seem really runny and to date has not pooed. We have also not had any success with making her cry ( you really have to squeeze her arm,a child would never be able to manage it.
I have spoken to other doll owners(mummies) and they all say the same.
Overall, I would say save your money. My daughter does play with it, but just as a regular doll and has long since given up trying anything else.
