Great fun the only problem was who was going to control the train. So we bought another! Round the bend..., 03 Dec 2003
Does what it says on the box. Four curves to add to your Brio system - unfortunately that's not many when you probably want to expand a starter set. You'll find you need to buy a few boxes of these basics which will work out costly. Perhaps better to supplement your Brio starter set with cheaper track from one of the many alternative manufacturers (but a word of warning - stick with Brio for anything 'non-track', like buildings).

excellent starter set, 22 Oct 2007
Having looked at the various Brio sets available, we opted for this as it had such a variety of components: bridges, railway crossing, crane, forklift truck, a motorised engine and a push along engine that makes appropriate train noises; the number of track pieces allows for a variety of circuits (unlike the figure of 8 tracks) which gives more interest. The only criticism is the relatively poor way in which the track sits in bridge supports, which is fairly unstable and encessitates regualr rebuilds (particularly with enthusiastic toddlers around!) but this is a minor quibble in what is otherwise an excellent set.

Product Description
"Whoo-whoo!"--BRIO's Record and Play Railway Station is a beautifully crafted interactive toy. A solid beechwood railway platform is tailor-made for lots of imaginative role-play: there's a window for the ticket master, a doorway to the waiting area, and a painted flagstone walkway leading down a hall. And the features! Buttons on the rooftop turn station lights on and off--or sound forth a very realistic train arrival; an analog-style play clock can be set to any time; a detachable chunk of track bears a simple, sturdy, rotating destination sign offering a choice of London, Berlin, Tokyo, or New York. But the main attraction is the built-in rooftop speaker. With the push of a button, children can record and play back a full 10 seconds of their own terrific sound effects or announcements ("All aboard! Passengers leaving for Tokyo, please board at Gate 1 immediately!")--and change them as often as they please. The set requires three AA batteries (not included); for those concerned about the safety of younger railway workers, the battery compartment has a secure, recessed screw closure. --Julie Ubben

Well Worth the Money - Sturdy and Great Fun, 17 Nov 2008
We must have owned this product for about 4 years now and the voice recording part is as good as ever. My children find it hilarious fun recording messages, songs and other sounds for the station announcement. It is very simple to do so even 3 year olds can master it. You can record again and again.
With two boys who have hundreds of Thomas related items (my youngest son is even called Thomas because of his older brothers Thomas obsession) I would rate this as our second best purchase ever.
There are four easily operated buttons on the top of the station. The far right button switches on and off two station lights. The next button operates a steam train sound - a very realistic steam train slowing down into the station noise. The far left button plays the sound you have recorded and pressing down this button plus the button next to it while speaking records your message.
It fits onto every kind of wooden track we have: brio, learning curve, supermarket own brand etc. but my children are equally happy carrying it around and making me jump wth the messages you can record. Be prepared for some great role playing and fun messages to make you laugh.
A must have purchase for anyone with a wooden train set.
Good fun for all, 03 Feb 2008
This was an Xmas present for my 1 year old to add to the wooden set he inherited from his 4 year old sister. They both love the train set and character engines. This station has added an extra dimension they both enjoy. It's so simple to record, replay and re-record announcements. The wooden system is not cheap, but in my opinion it's about saving money on cheap track alternatives whilst spending the extra on more interesting add-ons. This is one such investment.

Our favourite train, 09 Mar 2006
Bought this train when it first came out and it has proved to be an excellent investment. Each time they bring out a new item in the SmartTrack range, the train goes straight back to the top of the list of favourite toys. We bought the engine shed and reversing tracks for Christmas and had Brio track all over the floor while the train trundled around, back and forth between station and engine shed. Definitely a good buy if you have boys who love trains.

A nice addition to the Brio set we'd just bought for our daughter (nearly three). She likes to wind the handle to make the bridge go up and down and likes the little gates at either side too. A nice touch is that the handle's been designed to be held and turned by small hands. The one caveat is that you need a special piece of track from Brio to allow track to go under the bridge rather than just over it. It's difficult to find and without it, the bridge doesn't have as much appeal.

Lean Green Machine..., 19 Apr 2006
Only cosmetically different from the Mighty Red Loco but still much better than the other battery-operated engine (which came with our first starter set). That had a fiddly switch at the top whereas this has simple big buttons for forward, reverse and stop (much better for our two year old!). It even has a switch to change into push-along mode and has little trouble coping with slopes and longer trains (unlike UK rail companies my daughter likes nothing better than to load on the carriages!). Be aware you'll need two (AAA) batteries but this just makes it stronger and last longer.

The Brio Roundhouse, 10 Jun 2003
We bought the roundhouse for our son when he was two and a half. He was thrilled with it initially and we would always find lost trains stored away inside it. However he has never really gotten the hang of it and he finds the doors very hard to manouver with the trains. I think the roundhouse without the doors would be better. We are hoping that as he grows older and plays differently with his Brio set he will start to use the roundhouse in stories and "pretend" games. This has to be one of the most durable of toys. My husband of 100kg has stood on the roundhouse without any noticeable damage. My son sits on the roundhouse, jumps off the roundhouse and generally abuses the roundhouse without any discernable wear.
Brio Roundhouse, 10 Jun 2003
Being one of the most expensive accessories I have found it money well spent. My three and a half year old son would play with it all day if I let him!
grand roundhouse, 27 Oct 2001
my son (who is 5 years old) begged and begged for this brio accessory. i finally gave in to him and bought it this year from amazon. hes played with it on a few occasions only. the grand roundhouse does nothing hes says. my son and many of his friends have not enjoyed this brio accessory and now it takes up space in his wardrobe.

Definitely a good buy if you have boys who love trains.
plenty of fun, 11 Mar 2005
i bought this for my son 3 weeks back and he has not stopped playing with it since. its great for learning hand and eye co ordination.it just makes a great edition to his train set .
my son thinks it is magic, 04 Jan 2006
This station automatically stops certain trains, my son thinks that it is magic. It is a really great addition to his brio train set.
Mind the gap..., 23 Sep 2002
Brio track Overpriced but good play value, 22 Sep 2008
Brio is great although some more imagination could be used for the child who wants to build a decentloco shed or station.
The key to all railway systems is points and they are too expensive and there are not enough alternative points.
Whats happening to Brio's wood?, 06 Apr 2008
Well another disappointment on the Brio front - their track was always so durable and strong (we have a massive box that is carted around, dumped in and out and just lives with everything the kids can throw at it!) - these points/switches were deployed as soon as they arrived in the post and once the track got accidentally lifted up "snap" the curved part broke off - on closer inspection the beech in these parts does not seem as dense as the older stuff, was that made in China? Again, bad show Brio!
