Great game for kids, 14 Aug 2008
Carcassonne is a brilliant game full of surprises. It's basically just taking a tile and laying it in the right place, but there's a bit of oomph you've to put into it as well, and that is what makes it fun and exciting. I can't wait to get some expansions which are supposed to make it better.
It's price is very good for the game and I'm very pleased with it, it's also very addictive. William.
One of the most enjoyable games I have ever played., 25 Mar 2008
I've been playing this game now for several years, since it first came out. The game won the German Game Of The Year award, in 2001. I should point out at this point that German board games are considered to be some of the best in the world, as such this is a very high accolade, which the game very much deserves.
I believe that there are two main reasons why this game is so deserving of its Game Of The Year Award: The first of these being that the basic rules of the game are very easy to learn. The second is that despite being easy to learn the rules, mastering the game will take a bit longer, and the randomness prevents a single tactic from becoming a guaranteed win, thus maintaining a more level playing field for games consisting of both experienced and inexperienced players.
Despite being similar, every game that I have played has had a different feel to it. This, I expect, is due to the random nature of the drawing of the tiles. This randomness does not, however, impart a feeling of lack of control; each tile drawn generally has multiple options where it may be placed, a decision that rests firmly with the player.
The choice of location is part of the educational aspect of the game, that of strategy. The player must weigh up the pro's and con's of short-term or long-term gain. This requires a level of mathematical calculation, and needs to be coupled with an element of risk-taking (gambling on the tile(s) needed both being available in the future and actually being the choice of that player). Even then, it may be necessary for a player to recalculate where they wish to play the tile if it does come to them; the situation may have changed through the tactics used by the other players.
Having owned the game for a good half-dozen years, and having used it often I can say that the tiles are wearing well. Despite being made of card the tiles are proving to be quite resilient, even though my tiles are regularly jumbled up in the bag which came with the second expansion. The only word of caution that I feel it is necessary to give is that although the bag is exceedingly useful for running the game it does start to get a bit full with all of the expansion tiles!
There are many expansions available for this game. The rules for each of them are relatively simple, although they will add a great deal to think about. A word of caution here, some some confusion could result the first time all of the expansions are used together. This is because there are increasing options available to a player once they take and place a tile, and the Dragon Flies tiles actually interrupt the game play; so the players have to remember where to carry on from.
If you like the game but think that it is over too quickly or does not provide sufficient tactical thought, then the way ahead is definitely to get one or more of the expansions. Each expansion will add about 30-45 minutes of time to the overall time required to play the game. Playing with the first four expansions, two copies of the Rivers II expansion, the Count of Carcasssonne, and two copies of the King and Bandit results in games that can take up to five hours to play.
One final comment, the game play changes depending on the number of players. This is not a critism, a two-player game is just as enjoyable as a six player game, it is just a different experience; this actually makes the game more appealing, because if you play it with a different number of players each time you have more variety. That said, there would be nothing wrong with playing the game with the same two people every time. Note, you must have the first expansion to be able to play a six-player game.
One Of The Most Relaxing Games I've Seen For The XBox Live Arcade, 22 Mar 2008
Please note that I am reviewing the XBox Live Arcade Version of Carcassone for the XBox 360!
In November 2007 XBox Live celebrated it's 5th Anniversary since it's debut in 2002, and as a treat anyone who owned a XBox 360 and XBox Live was allowed to download and play Carcassone free of charge for a short period of time. So I thought, I take this offer and download and play the game. You can't complain at free-bee's these days can you?
At first I didn't have much interest in Carcassone cause I found it a little tough, but after I played it a couple of times, getting used to it was a piece of cake and normally you toughen yourself up and get yourself prepared for a game, but with Carcassone it was a game where I can sit back, relax and just take my time!
Carcasonne is a board game in which your goal is to use tiles to build cities, roads, and farms. The players take turns to place the tiles they get given and then using special coloured stars, you can claim certain parts of the land. If you successfully claim a certain piece of land or a piece of ground to build a castle you earn points. These points are then counted. Obviously, the person with the highest points is the winner. In total a game can take a total of 72 Tiles but you can have 2, 3 or 4 players!
The XBox 360 Arcade Version of the game has no difference whatsoever. It follows the same rules as the board game but also contains a Leader-Board score chart, which places your score worldwide once you obtain Game Over and 12 Achievements which give you a total score of 200 Points with Online Play as well!
My Personal Game Score: 9.2/10: Beauty-Baby-Bonza
My Wish: Sometimes when your playing online, you may have to wait a while before you can proceed with your turn, so I do wish that online play was slightly more quicker than it is!
Final Comments: Overall, Carcassone is a fairly quiet, relaxing, and easy game which you can put your teeth into no time. The achivements are fairly easy to get, but be warned that you could get addicted to this game!

Showing that family boardgames need not be random, 11 Mar 2008
This is a fantastic game, truly a classic. I can play this with my family and have an hourof fun building roads, completing cities and watching a landscape unfold. I can also play it with more serious game playing adults and its a tense game of strategic tile manipulation to sabotage cities and steal points from other players' fields.
Wonderful to play, easy to explain and customisable to your taste with the array of availabe expansion sets. This is perhaps it's only weakness: it almost needs expansions after a while to keep it lively. Playing with people who can memorise the tile manifest is deeply, deeply, painful. The expansions keep the game fresh.
A great board game for adults and children., 30 Dec 2007
A simple map building board game that has turned out to be a good favourite of our kids aged 12 and 14. The scoring can become a little complex at times, but the simple basis of picking terrain cards and placing them to gain most points is an easy and always different game each time. We have not yet delved into the expansion packs, but expect that these will add additional spice to the possible game strategies and permatations. Highly recommended for young and teenage familys.

Well thought out design!, 02 Feb 2008
This is a great toy, whoever designed it must have done it through the eyes of a child. The detail is impressive and so is the functionality. I think it offered great value for money and I think its great!
My review of the flight control Tardis, 29 Oct 2007
The flight control tardis is a giant leap fowerd from the last tardis(tardis talking money box)It features glowing windows with inside interior lighting, It also features 6 different tardis sound affects
with flashing lantern, police telephone detail and inward opening doors. If you push open the doors you come to a boring space with a sticker of the tardis inside. You may think by that it would have every
thing a flight control tardis would need, but if your a person that likes to play with toys this is probely the wrong toy for you. If your a collecter then this is a perfect collectors tardis, over all I think that the flight control tardis is quite a disapointment ,so if you would like this toy, your waisting your money ,but if your totally mad about doctor who, then its totally Brillent!
THE TIME LORDS TIME MACHINE THAT'S INTERACTIVE., 21 Sep 2007
This is the latest in the raft of TARDIS toy's and models which have flooded the market. This one is one of the best as it has motion sensitive electronics so it will produce various Tardis type sounds. From the lift off when you place it on a surface to opening the doors it will. Produce the humming of the ships engines as on the series as well as flickering internal lighting. There are other neat tricks such as spinning it which will make the sound of the ship in the Vortex. All in all this is a brilliant toy and lots of fun for young and old fans. It's also produced for the new range of 5 inch figures but unlike the Tv Tardis only 2 figures will squeeze inside !.
"It's called a TARDIS.", 04 Aug 2007
At last, a version of the iconic TARDIS to scale with the current releases of the 5 inch figures.
An absolute must have for any collector or kid to play with, this great reproduction of The Doctor's ship is packed with features that will delight young and old alike.
Both doors on the front open and there is even the telephone inside the left door. They can be locked open and reveal the TARDIS interior. There's just enough room inside to fit figures of The Doctor and his Companion.
The best feature of this TARDIS though are the lights and sound effects built in. The Police Public Call Box signs on each side all light up and the glowing lantern on the top flashes appropriately, depending on what the TARDIS is doing at the time.
There are 8 sound effects in total.
When you open the doors the interior lights up and you get the sound of the TARDIS humming away.
There is a pressure lever in the base that registers if it's landed or flying and will make appropriate sounds when necessary. There's slow take off, take off and emergency launch, landing and emergency landing.
There's a spin button on the base and by placing your finger on it and spinning the TARDIS from the light on top it makes the flight sound which is rather cool.
The final sound is a bit tricky to coax out of the toy. If you shake it once (and only once!) in flight you get a flight disruption noise, but it's quite difficult to get the sensor inside to register this one.
All in all, a great fun toy for kids and adults and no Doctor Who collection would be complete without this toy.

All in all, a great fun toy for kids and adults and no Doctor Who collection would be complete without this toy.

incredible toy, 13 Aug 2008
Super toy. It was sold out in denmark, but it only took 4 days(!!!) from ordering the Omnitrix, till it was in the mail.
Thank you. My son is totally exited.!!!
Top toy for a 5 year old, 16 Jun 2008
Fantastic. Has kept my 5 year old playing with it for a week. Don't be fooled by the other alien viewer that one is rubbish.
A bonus this is double sided!, 22 Nov 2007
A great duvet cover for any Doctor Who fan. The colours are vibrant and it is double sided the other side is the same as the doctor who curtains. This was a well appreciated gift for my son.

Lego kick off their 2008 Star Wars series with their first ever set from the new Clone Wars CGI animated series with kit #7669: Anakin's Jedi Starfighter.
The yellow enhanced Delta-7 starfighter is based loosely around the frame of 2002's Jedi Starfighter with a slightly larger hull and more detailing. It features moveable wings, positionable landing gear, 2 forward mounted blue flick missiles, removable cockpit and best of all, a neat little ejection mechanism for R2.
There is a connected lever that runs from the aft through the hull and when you push it in, a small bolt pushes up and ejects R2 upwards. The new flick missiles are much better than previous issues with a new piece design that stay clipped in the frame until you apply pressure the thin tail at the back of it.
You get two figures with the kit, R2-D2 and a new version of Anakin Skywalker. Unlike previous issues, this figure has more detailing on the facial feature making it look much better than the standard ones. Anakin's trademark blue lightsabre finishes the set.
The kit is composed of 142 pieces, not including the figures, missiles and weapons and measures 26cm long, 14cm wide and 8cm high - without landing gear deployed.
It takes about 15 minutes to build, there are 6 decals to apply and it's ready to go. A very nice starfighter and hopefully the first in a new wave for Star Wars Lego.

good preparation for starting school , 25 Jun 2008
I got this for my four year old daughter who will start school in August. She is already role-playing using this and just loves it. The house and campervan sets are quite good too. She doesn't even mind that we now have multiple Peppa and family figures. She's just turned them into extended family. Didn't know Peppa had so many cousins!
Peppa School Life ~!, 28 Apr 2008

Peppa Pig Classroom, 07 Apr 2008
My 4 year old got this for her birthday and really likes it, but her little sister, who is 2 next month likes it even more - it's one of her favourite toys and she will happily spend ages (v unusual!) sitting all the characters at their desks. Was very impressed with this
Wonderful gift, 25 Jan 2008
Bought this for my 3 year old for Christmas, she is a huge Peppa fan and thinks it is wonderful. Maybe it has something to do with all the charaters that come with the toy. Well worth the money for that reason alone.

incredible toy, 13 Aug 2008

It's also produced for the new range of 5 inch figures but unlike the Tv Tardis only 2 fig | | |
