I bought this for my 8 year old daughter and she liked it - mind you it only lasted for a day or so and the scents were not much to write home about. I cant help thinking that a good ol go with some rose petals and water has about the same educational level. i think that it could have had more scents in it - and more interesting ones too. These packs never have enough stuff in them and once they are gone they are gone. Mind you my daughter did enjoy doing it but beware - you may have to wear rose and mint perfume!
what a stink!, 13 Sep 2008
bought this for my 6 year old daughter who's just discovered the fun of scientific experiments and she loves it. It's basic and simple - and could be put together from bits around the house, but with the vials and potions in this kit they can just get on and have a go mixing and making; learning how to measure and follow instructions in the process.

I bought this product for my 10 yr old cousin for her Birthday. As soon as she opened the present she couldn't wait to start blending the different scents to make her own Perfume. I was concerened that there didn't seem very much in the kit, especially for the size of the box, however, several scents were made along with slime and pourri. Overall a fantastic product and educational.
small but interesting, 22 Jun 2008
I brough this as a present for my little sister. And naturally had to open it up and have a look.
You dont get all that much in the set. a syringe, tweezers, cotton wool, colouring, selection of scents, some sublime slime mix and gel popuri mix, and a selection of vials with stickers for labels.
Either way its a fantastic gift and fun to play with, just a shame it doesn't come with more ingrediants.

Poor Build Quality and Does Not Buck, 17 Nov 2008
This is a classic gamic which I remember being brilliant from childhood. The theory of it is brilliant, load items until the donkey throws them off but this version is cheap, tacky and it doesn't even buck unless you prod it roughly once all the items are on. The items to load are all very poor quality.
The mechanism to reset the donkey is also difficult to operate.
Another game which has been completely ruined by poor production and cost cutting.
Don't waste your money on this version. If you have a very young child 'Bounce Bounce Tigger' is much better quality and works slightly better than this game.
Don't bother........., 16 Nov 2008
I used to have this game as a youngster and I loved it so much.
Now, playing with my two children it fills me, and my children with frustratation.
Yes, I know I'm alot older now, but you have to have a very heavy hand before good old Buck, bucks, you certainly didn't when I was younger.
My son is 4 and he gets very annoyed when he gently puts the items on and I have to tell him to push down a bit more, and then a bit more.....it really does spoil it for him.
So obviously I wouldn't recommend this game at all.
Disappointed, 07 Oct 2008
I have fond memories of playing this game when I was a child, (over 30 years ago), so I bought one for my son's fourth birthday. The first one would not 'buck' at all, even when set to 'difficult' so it was exchanged. The replacement is only slightly better. The new mule, according to the box is supposed to be 'moodier'. It looks a bit more colourful but the old version definitely worked better. You shouldn't have to get all the paraphanelia on and give it a poke before it goes off. It ruins the excitement.
this version does not buck!, 12 Oct 2007
this version of buckaroo just doesn't work as well as the old version. this one (or at least my one) does not buck at all unless you cheat, as stated by someone else below. the old version used to buck with hardly any effort at all, which made the game tense and exciting; brilliant. but with this version, even my nineteen month old son (unsteady as he is)can't make the mule buck. arghhhh! no fun at all.
it's a great idea to try and update the product by incorporating levels and it is a far more attractive looking mule, but the whole point of the game is to make it buck, right? my advice would be to try and find an older version. we've not touched our new buckaroo since we bought it and i am now trying to get my hands on an older version...
Buck - a - roo!, 13 Sep 2007
We initially could not get our mule to buck, but found that we were being too gentle when putting the blanket in place and the saddle. A bit of brute force was all we needed! Now our mule bucks at each of the levels and is fun for all.
As a child I used to visit family friends who had Buckaroo; we did not have it at home and I loved it, now my two sons are getting the toys I always wanted!

Very disappointing, 27 Oct 2008
Bought this for my daughter last Christmas and frankly hasn't worked properly since. You can't get rid of the previous drawing. The new drawing line is so thin and faint you have to go over the line a number of times to see it. All in all very disappointing and not at all like the original one I had many years ago.
Is it really the world's favourite?, 16 Sep 2008
You have to struggle and perhaps tire yourself in order to clear the screen by shaking it. The drawing starts from any random location. However its not bad after all to an unusual kind of drawing.
Chinese manufacture new models not up to previous standards, 01 Apr 2008
We bought one of these classic toys for our 7 year old. It was great for a couple of weeks until the vertical movement jammed. We sent off for a new one from the suppliers but it never arrived. Took three follow up phone calls and an extremely irate fax to get any response from the suppliers who finally supplied a new one nine months after the first one broke!
The quality of new models is not as good as the ones I remember when I was a kid. The plastic is not as strong and is more brittle. It can be cracked if dropped. The mechanism is not as good either. The knobs are more difficult to hold because they're smaller (not just because I'm older!) and are not as smooth in use.
As a toy it's still good fun but I felt let down by the poor construction quality and the lack of communication and response from the supplier. Nor did we get any recompense for the postage costs of returning the broken one.
I notice that these are now made in China and you can tell that they are built down to a price instead of up to a specification.

Product Description
There's an understated elegance to Rush Hour, one of the most inspired and intriguing sliding block puzzles we've so far encountered here in the lab at gadgetshop HQ. It's designed to challenge players of all ages, teaching logical progression, problem solving and sequential-thinking skills. And that's just to open the box. This multi award-winning puzzle - and its inventor Nob Yoshigahara - have picked-up no fewer than 21 gongs in the past decade; a surefire testament to its longevity, durability and worldwide appeal. The objective sounds easy in theory. Drive your red car out of the playing grid and escape to freedom. But in order to so, you'll first need to set up the traffic on a game grid to match one of 40 playing cards, then shift all the blocking cars and trucks out of your way. This is more easily said than done, as a clear and transparent set of rules then come into play. To proceed, one simply needs to move one vehicle at a time, in a long sequence of moves designed to free the red car from the logjam and out of the parking lot. All of which will have one scratching one's noggin- and driving one to the web for a solution. Brilliantly infuriating - and infuriatingly brilliant. This captivating game could have been made with London's rush hour in mind. In fact Rush Hour was invented by American games company Binary Arts. In the US it went down a storm, winning various prizes including a national award from Mensa. The objective of Rush Hour is to move the little red car out of the snarled up traffic gridlock that the game begins with. Rush Hour arrives with 40 challenge cards, which depict various gridlock scenarios to set up your traffic jam to. Use the coloured Troublesome Trucks and Aggravating Autos to reflect the chaos on your particular challenge card. Then all you have to do is move the blocking vehicles up or down on the grid in order to free up the escape route for your own red car. And yet this wonderfully simple concept is enthrallingly more difficult to execute. Who knows, maybe the real London rush hour is easier on the nerves than the Binary Arts version. The challenge cards themselves offer four different levels of complexity and all solutions are printed on the back. Yet not only is Rush Hour great fun but it can also boast strong educational benefits, teaching problem solving to children of seven years plus. In the US Rush Hour is used in some primary school maths classes. Even a smart four-year-old will find some reward by trying to replicate the traffic set-up scenario of the challenge cards. Rush Hour can be enjoyed by one player or various players competing. Suitable for children from 7 years old and all adults who enjoy an ingenious little challenge.--Victoria Mackenzie

A good gift - A+, 18 Nov 2008
I bought this last year for my then 5 year old son, but my 8 year old daughter enjoyed it more at the time and now they both play it - very good toy - keeps the mind going - even for the adults. Good for keeping them quiet for a while. Very durable - just don't lose any of the cars, (which shouldn't happen if they pack it away in the provided bag). I am now buying 'hoppers' this xmas in the hopes that it brings as much pleasure and quiet time!
Traffic jam, 07 Jan 2008
Bought this for my son for christmas. Thought it might be too difficult for him as he wasn't 5 until end Jan. However after only a little while he could easily do the beginners section! He really enjoys the game and concentrates quite hard whilst doing it! Great game would highly recommend!
A simple concept but great fun, 31 Dec 2007
Based on previous reviews I purchased this as a Christmas present for my 9 year old neice and have to agree with previous comments - this is an excellent toy. It had my neice, her parents and myself captivated for hours as we worked through the levels. Highly recommended.
Great fun for the whole family, 29 Dec 2007
What a great success this Christmas. A simple idea that kept everyone captivated for hours. This is an excellent educational toy for children, working out the strategy of getting the red car out of the grid by moving other cars really gets them thinking. Easy to set up with varying levels of ability suits everyone. My 8 year old can manage the beginner levels, whilst the expert levels keep the adults guessing for hours! Even my 92 year old nan found this enthralling, playing for ages. For the price this is superb value for money. The game itself is superb, buy it - you will not be disappointed.
Fun, makes you think and ideal to travel with, 23 Oct 2007
Like many of the reviewers here I bought this game for a kid's birthday, in this case my 9 year old niece. On the day I spent more time playing it than she did (which she wasn't entirely happy about!).
The game itself consists of a plastic gameboard, the size of a desk calculator, in which there is a drawer holding the puzzle cards. The board and game pieces (around 20 pieces) come in a handy carry bag. You'll need the carry bag to keep everything together neatly, but you don't need to tip the whole contents out to find the pieces you need, since there are not many of them and they are not tiny.
As a side note, since the pieces are not tiny and are brightly coloured you can easily find them if they fall on the ground.
As the playing the game, well it really makes you think and is also very fun. You get a smug feeling of superiority when you finally manage to figure the puzzle out.
The puzzle difficulty ranges from very easy indeed to ferociously difficult. The hardest puzzles had me stumped and I am supposed to be pretty clever! But don't worry, the puzzle cards also have the answers (on the back) so you can figure it out like that if you need to!
Although there are 'only' 60 cards or so, they are easily replayable as you are not going to remember the pemutations of every one.
I recommend this game, fun for all ages, intelligent and easily portable.
I'm already looking forward to visting my brother again so I can have another go...

One man band!, 14 Oct 2008
I bought this toy as it looked like it would hold my attention as well as my baby's! It did the trick as there are so many little details on it. Alongside the bright colours, which were great for my newborn as he is not able to feel the different materials yet, the back is black and white which he spends forever gazing at. Having bought the lamaze monkey also, Freddie has much more to do, including a mirror under one wing-great for peek-a-boo!
Great toy for alert babies, 16 Aug 2008
I bought this toy for my son when he was born as he is a baby that is always awake so needs lots of stimulation. This has been one of the best buys as he loves the squeaker and the colours meant he could see it when he was a few weeks old. It also rattles and he is now able to get hold of the rings at the bottom to chew. I actually put this toy in the washing machine when it fell out of the car and it was fine - the squeaker still works. A must have for those with active babies.
Fantastic toy, 23 Jul 2008
I have bought 3 Lamaze toys for my 7 month old daughter and this one is her favourite. It is very colourful, which is typical of the Lamaze range, and has lots of crinkly bits and a button that squeaks. She is entertained for a while biting on the red teething ladybird and also likes chewing on the rings. It is a big toy and hangs well from a play gym or pram. It is a bit difficult to clean but comes up fine with a good scrub with a sponge and hot soapy water. I can't recommend these toys enough, especially Freddie the Firefly.

bought this for my 6 year old daughter who's just discovered the fun of scientific experiments and she loves it.

Mould and paint something else..., 27 Nov 2008
...am making it my life's work to deter you from buying these products. We've had 'em all over the years and I still haven't been able to create anything that looks like a fairy for my children to paint. My most recent effort looked like a dried lumpy ball of badly mixed plaster of paris which coincidentally was exactly what it was. If they were to bring out a product called "Mould and Paint Dried Lumpy Ball of Badly Mixed Plaster of Paris", I would have to give it five stars. The paints have lasted a long time but only because we've never had occasion to use them.
At this price, some might describe the product as a "stocking filler". Well, you fill a stocking with plaster of paris and you might end up with something more closely resembling a fairy than I've ever managed to produce. In my experience, "bin filler" is more appropriate.

Alphabet Zoo Ball, 25 Jan 2008
Although after about 10 minutes or so every day using this you will wish you never purchased it (I know a song that will get on your nerves, get on your nerves, get on your nerves.....)your baby will love the animal sounds, the repetition and the flashing lights and this will encourage them to start babbling and gurgling......which is just delightful!

Any Peppa Pig fan should add this to their collection. My daughter is such a fan and anything to do with peppa pig is worth buying
Oink Oink, 14 Jan 2008
We got this for my 3 year old daughter for Christmas. She loves it. It is very easy to play with as the whole top comes off. The accessories are good fun too. Much more playability than the push and go car or drive and steer car as the figures come out.
Only slight criticism is that the awning on the camper van keeps getting ripped off, but it is easy to put back in again!
Nice toy but not as good as could have been..., 23 Aug 2007
Just received the toy today for my son. He is 4 and loves peppa pig. They make it extremely difficult to get it out of the box... you will need a screw driver, scissors, and a lot of muscle lol. The caravan top comes off but the doors don't open or anything so it is just like a big plastic box that the top lifts off of. Daddy pig does not stand his body is too heavy for his legs and this frustrates my son a bit. It's a really cute idea and my son loves it and said he is happy about it. But you have to pop the seats out of the caravan to have seats for the picnic table, the shower is just a piece of plastic it does nothing really, the sun shade on top of the caravan rolls out and in which is cool but it gets stuck a lot and you have to re-adjust it. The good thing is all the extras fit into the back of the caravan so you can pack it away easy. The characters don't really sit in the seats very well either. I would like this toy more if it had cost less. I think it is a bit expensive for what it does.

its ok , 03 Oct 2008
