It's nothing special but kids go mad for them, 01 Oct 2008
I bought this as a small 'top up' gift for my son's 6th birthday - he loves it, even though the end product is a little bit of plastic in the shape of a dinosuar that's only and inch or so long...
His two-year old sister really went wild for it too, and has kept it under her pillow all week.
So although it's nothing special as far as us adults are concerned, it has something about it that kids really go for.
It'd make a good stocking filler for Christmas.
Very fun and worth getting, 11 Jan 2008
I was very happy with this product as i didnt have a huge desire to get it in the first place, which was a very pleasant surprise when i realised how much fun they are ... The dino egg gets dropped into warm water and starts to fizz. It is quite fun and really strange the way the little plastic pieces are left in the bottom of the water container. It is good fun because you can mix and match the pieces and make a new breed. It is also good to look on the scoreboard on the back and see what type the dino is and you can get higher scores for rarer breeds. Very fun!
Great Fun, 05 Dec 2007
My two sons love these - they quickly get referred to as the smelly dinos as the pleasant soapy smell remains for months and months! Thy love swapping the heads and legs and making up their own names, although beware if you have two dino mad children if one gets one with higher points . . . . . ,
Dino fun, 08 May 2007
This is a great peice of educatonal fun. It's great watching the water fizz and the dinosaur emerge. The bits that you have to put together to make your dino are quite small, so I would recommend putting all the bits into a bowl and also giving them a rinse before building. My daughter is mad about dinosaurs and found a good dino site to find out lots of dino species and info [...]. A worthy gimmick for dino fans.
FIZZING FUN, 01 May 2007
These fizzy eggs are great fun for any child that's into Dinosaurs and are priced at a level that is affordable. We use them as rewards for our 7-year-old son. Just make sure you get all the bits together before you empty the bowl or pull the plug as the pieces are quite small and easily lost down the drain....that dinosaur ended up in the Dinosaur hospital !

As I type this my 7 year old son is sat quietly at the table trying to dig his dinosaur out, he's been at it for a few days now and absolutley loves it. (So does the rest of the family) Yes, it does get a quite a bit messy so we've put it on a really large tray which does contain most of the dust. He's already asked if we can get another one, when he's finished this one. Great Buy!
Dino digging, 07 Nov 2003
After putting on his safety googles Nick aged 5 got sraight into knocking pieces of grit of to expose bits of the dinosaur. He had great fun watching the grit flying everwhere ( i suggest doing it outside) It may seem the best idea is to give the a hammer to hit the tool in harder, but that didn't impress him, and he kept chipping away, and using the brush to get rid of the lose grit. When all bits were found, he happily but it together and keeps glowing in his bedroom each night.

Good fun, but you can do it the old fashioned way, 03 Oct 2008
My boys really enjoyed watching this erupt. Easy to set up, can be used again and again if you buy new ingredients. But it's probably cheaper to do it the old fashioned way with vinegar and bicarbonate of soda in an old yoghurt pot!

Great kit, 26 Nov 2008
This kit was just the thing to help to bring a school project on Ancient Egypt to life.
The booklet was easy to follow and the contents fun to use, make and paint.
I'd say that this is a useful kit to help support and enhance interest in Ancient Egypt.
Fun and educational!, 25 Nov 2008
As a teacher, I got this kit to use with primary school aged children. Although it is very well presented with an informative booklet, it would be quite difficult to make anything in it more than once and thus once the kit has been used, it is not much use. However if you have a child with an interest in the Egyptians then it would be a fantastic set to keep them busy during a holiday. Amongst the items you can make are a bracelet, plaster of paris artefacts, door hanger and mask. The instructions are clear and easy to follow and only require basic household items to complement the contents provided.
OK, but once only use, 25 Nov 2008
Written with the help of my eight-year old son. This kit contains a variety of items as described by other reviewers. Probably best are the plaster of paris casts to make a variety of items including a Pharaoh's mask and scarab. However the supply of plaster of paris is limited so only one Pharaoh's mask can be made. This is a bit of a shame and we bought more supplies separately. As crayons were not included the supplied pains were used with the stencils rather unsuccessfully.
Some items, particularly the door hanger and the scroll were not so well received and the bracelet was rejected - by a boy! A girl would no doubt like it.
Overall pretty good but probably not a gift for Christmas day. It needs a bit of time and consideration to make the items and read the book.
National Geographic Egyptian Kit, 21 Nov 2008
A lot of fun for young and old. You can make a bracelet, wall hanger and there are stencils which can be used for more than one project. The box does list all the things which are included in the kit including paints, thread and beads but there are still a lot of things which you need but which are not included in the kit. Just check out what you need prior to giving it to a child. You don't want to be in a position where your little one wants to start making an item and you don't have in the house what will be necessary to complete the project. The plaster of paris is easy to use but it is tricky to get the plaster out of the mould and may require adult help. The instruction booklet is informative, educational and fun. The kids will learn a great deal but in a fun way so that they won't realise that they are learning. This kit is mainly for single use though the stencils can be used more than once. I would definitely recommend this kit as the whole family can become involved.
Good stuff for the kids but a problem with the mould., 20 Nov 2008
I got the National Geographic Egyptian Kit mainly to give the kids a project to have fun with as they are both into history and like Eqyptian mummies and so forth. Its pretty good with quite a few moulds and some hieroglyphics to practice and paint to make the moulds colourful. However there is a rather large problem in the mummy tomb mould in that the rubber its made from is very stiff and hard to remove once the plaster sets. It was so hard that the plaster figure broke trying to remove it. If this was made much easier to use then the kit would be much improved. Still in spite of this the kids had a lot of fun making the casts and learning about ancient Egypt.

We bought this toy a week ago. We've not played the game yet as we're still digging for dinosaurs! I don't know if we are doing it wrong, but it takes ages to chip away at the dinosaurs. However, I'm not complaining - the time it takes means it is very good value for money and will keep kids occupied for ages in the digging stages. Particularly because you're finding a dinosaur at the time, so ours are young enough to get excited about just seeing a head or a foot before the rest starts to be uncovered. It is also theraputic for the adults!!

Dig...and Dig....and Dig....and Dig..., 03 Sep 2005
Dig and dig and dig and more dig!, 02 Jan 2008
This toy was bought for my 6 yr old son. The idea behind the 'dig for hidden treasure' is good, but the 'brick' which encases the treasure is SO hard, it took my son, his friend and myself to smash away at it. We started on Christmas day, by pretending we were expert archaeologists, delicately chipping away at the brick, but after about an hour of nothing but red dust all over the kitchen we took the toy outside and started hammering furiously. The toy hammer provided was far too small to do much damage and the tiny paint brush (for brushing away the dust) was completely useless. (Beware, as the amount of dust produced is considerable.) Eventually we managed to knock off the corners of the brick, but were yet to find any treasure. By this time the children had lost interest and the toy was put away until the next day. This went on all through Christmas - each day we took the battered brick outside and hammered it - sometimes the children resorted to smashing bits of brick onto the garden path. Eventually the treasure was revealed - which was rather pathetic after all the effort it took to find it. The children pesevered, however, and eagerly set about using the treasure to play the game (which came as part of the toy). They soon lost interest in this as it was so boring. As this toy was being sent through the post, I was worried it might become damaged - I needn't have been - even if the toy hadn't been so superbly packaged, it probably still wouldn't have broken.

Thy love swapping the heads and legs and making up their own names, although beware if you have two dino mad children if one gets one with higher points . . . . . , Dino fun, 08 May 2007
This is a great peice of educatonal fun.
Excellent buy, 15 Jan 2005

Chipping Away..., 27 Feb 2007
My seven year old son got this for this birthday. It was themed around medieval times so was a very appropriate present. It took a week to uncover the knight as the plaster he was set in was rock solid. We all had turns and even Grandma couldn't resist the urge! (Mummy cheated in the end - soak block in water for easier chippings). Very messy with all the dust but the kids and parents kept coming back for more.
