Something so simple!, 28 Sep 2008
I have got 2 of these for my 2year old, one at grandma's and one at mine.
Such a good idea. No other mess. The pens fill with water. My daughter first got hers aged 1... and no, that wasn't too early! She has loved it ever since.
They aren't perfect, but what is? the mats are susceptible to dirt, as are the pens. I read a couple of review from mums who didn't like them as their children threw juice over them or got the pens dirty, but seriously, keep other liquids away from your children whilst they are being played with, and the pens away when they aren't being used, and whats the problem?
These are with no doubt one of the best toys my daughter has ever had and I already have one in my basket as a Christmas present for another child.
oh... and because they fold up, they are great to take away with you too, great for trains, they cover the whole table! You can even get a travel one which is good for cars.

we have found this item very useful for our 14 month old daughter, but we only bought it at Xmas and already the colours arent as strong as they used to be, it has now become very patchy, and I am not very pleased.
Will be looking to seek a replacement.

I have three daughters aged 10, 8 and 15 months and they all love this product it's the best christmas present I bought last year and the price was great too, it's good clean fun and the mat is durable it just washes and it looks brand new.
Excellent!!, 31 Dec 2007
What an excellent invention...... This is fantastic.
No mess, and keeps the kids happy for hours. What more could you ask?
This is more fun than the original aquadraw too, as it has the stampers and the 'paintbrush' type thing too - plus, it's a pretty rainbow colour.
The mat doesnt last excellently well, and the nib of the pens goes a bit manky after a while but for the amount of use ours gets it was well worth the price.

Product Description
Drawing is clean and easy with Megasketcher! No mess, no pencils to sharpen or ink to run out! The magnetic Megasketcher drawing board has a unique special screen that allows budding artists to draw clear, crisp pictures . The pictures magically disappear with one sweep of the eraser ready to start again! Pen draws thick and thin lines and four shape stampers are also included.Children love to draw, and the Megasketcher from Tomy is a fun, clean and tidy variation on the traditional pencils and paper. The Megasketcher measures roughly 45 cm x 30 cm (18 in x 12 in), with the magnetised "screen" taking up most of the surface area. A magic "pen" (attached by a piece of string to avoid losing it under the sofa) allows children to draw, scribble and write, while the four magnetised stamps--a star, a heart, a car and a circle--add a different dimension to youngsters' designs. Once a composition is complete, or if one too many mistakes has been made, just drag the "eraser" button down its slide and, hey presto, it slides back up automatically, wiping out the redundant drawings. This kind of drawing aid has become a firm favourite, thanks mainly to its ability to be used over and over again, no matter how many mistakes are made. Not suitable for children under three years old due to safety restrictions, the Megasketcher is a fun, practical way of developing artistic awareness, creativity and fine and gross motor skills in children above that age. Perfect for long car journeys or rainy afternoons, this is a toy that will provide hours of play value--a must-have for every creative tot. --Lucie Naylor

great fun - but the automatic eraser fell to bits..., 13 Mar 2008
withing weeks of getting it - and only played with by 2 fairly careful kids. But even so, it's been a brilliant buy.
Not as hard wearing as my 2 year old needs, 14 Nov 2007
I bought this for my 2 year old daughter's birthday and she loves it. It's just not hard wearing enough for her. She's got lumps and bumps and bubbles in the screen and the movement for the bar to pull down and clear the screen isn't smooth and easy to pull down,it's uneven and jerky and inefficient. I would have tried the Fisher Price doodle pro which works differently with little honeycombs too see if it works any better. Although she still plays with this I'm disappointed in the state of it after just one week.
Built to last, 30 Sep 2007
Solid, robust construction. Going well almost three years later. Educational toy - helping our daughter with her drawing and writing. No worries about drawing on walls with felt tips especially with a 2 year old brother.
They love it so much we had to buy another one for him.
Recommended for hours of fun and learning.
every child should have one of these, 01 Aug 2007
This sort of toy is absolutely superb. We have had one of these for years and it is STILL used almost every day by my boys aged 7 and 9....there are not many toys that last like this !Obviously great for encouraging handwriting but also great for playing games - look no further for the perfect toy.
Marvellous toy., 02 Jan 2004
This drawing board has provided hours of fun for our 7yr. old daughter who has downs syndrome. It is extremely durable and she takes it everywhere with her using it to communicate, to get people to draw on it for her& to amuse herself. Her dexterity has improved considerably and she just loves it. We now have it nine months and it is still going strong. Before we bought it we had other drawing boards which could not compete

waste of money!, 24 Nov 2008
Absolute waste of money. Bought one for my 4 year old as an 'upgrade' to his old megasketcher, but took it back today and got my money back. The pencils would not rub off with the pathetic tool, i.e. a piece of polystyrene around which a 4 yeard old is supposed to wrap a piece of cloth (of which not much is actually supplied) and then insert it into another piece of plastic. Very frustrating for a 4 year old! Also, only three pens are supplied and the illumination is not that brilliant either! A very poor design from TOMY!
Not worth the money - poor toy, 15 Aug 2008
I agree the first few reviews. This looked like a really good toy as my daughter loves drawing, but after she used it the first time I knew it was a waste of neary £30. Definitely lacking in coloured pens, the eraser is totally useless and you have to rub REALLY hard to erase the pictures. Again, all I get when my daughter uses it is "Mummy can you rub this out". The only thing I found did the trick really well was those small sponges, I think they are called Magic Erasers. It rarely comes out of the cupboard. Good idea, but needs alot more thought.
Very difficult to clean, 20 Jan 2007
My daughter had specifically asked for this for christmas, and was really pleased to receive it. Unfortunately she spends 10-20 minutes on her creative drawings and no less than 45 minutes trying to clean the screen before she can draw again. In fact we have actually never been able to get all traces off which means newly drawn images still have traces of old images showing through which ruins the whole impact. Given the price of this item, all in all this was a bad buy.
lumi sketcher, 04 May 2005
I was really disappointed with this product as it looked great and fun to do. The quality of the product when the child needs to rub out is very poor and the pictures are still left on the board. This totally ruins the childs experience, it has been used twice since xmas, very pricy for the overall product.
a great idea, but a little disappointing, 03 Mar 2005
a great idea but the screen has to be SPOTLESSLY clean/dry between drawings - a bit tricky for my 4 year old, which lead to very frequent calls for 'mum' or 'dad' to clean and dry the thing. Eventually we got fed up with responding, and daughter got fed up with asking, so the toy now lies unused and unwanted in the corner. 3 pens are'nt enough. spare pens retail at £8.00 delivered! supplied eraser was a bit fiddly and flimsy and not really very good. I said to my wife a week after xmas 'this thing is a pain, you wait, it'll half price b4 you know it just so tomy can get rid of them' Check out the argos web-site - these things are currently half-price...
